Detroit: Become Human is better than you think

Detroit: Become Human is not perfect and, in general, not quite a game-there is almost no gameplay in it. In his review, my colleague aptly highlighted her key problems – moralization is very intrusive, parallels with the oppression of blacks are too straightforward. But I still like the brainchild of David Cage. Yes, undoubtedly, it could be better, but the project already hurts for the living.

Despite the minimum of the gameplay, Detroit It works fine. She knows how to immerse in her interactive story, slowly show the consequences of the elections, emotionally tie to the characters. IN Become Human Comfortable – designers created, I am not afraid of this word, a cozy, beautiful and fairly thought -out world. Detroit is experiencing a crisis, terrible things are happening, but he does not lose charm.

Attention to the details is phenomenal, and therefore the location literally comes to life

Detroit also sometimes surprises with the operator work (hell, what amazing angles this “not entirely game” sometimes gives out!), but perhaps the best in it is the audio part. In each scene, developers achieve a complete emotional response precisely thanks to sound and music. Yes, sometimes the Cage team spoils the impression with a clumsy quoting or too obvious by the plot, but does not pull to escape from Become Human, I want to plunge into it over and over again, finding new options for the development of history. This is not a masterpiece, but we are not obliged to love only masterpieces.

There are definitely references on the posters, but who does it matter when such a wonderful game of light on wet tiles is here!

There is a deep thought in this “not quite game”. In addition to the line of liberation of oppressed and poorly presented question about the boundaries of humanity, Detroit explores another topic – violence as a way of struggle. And so she has been worked out in Become Human much better than others.

New people

But first a couple of words about the boundaries of humanity. Where a serious cyberpunk asks uncomfortable questions, for example, what separates a person from a miserable mechanical fake? – Cage's brainchild is suspiciously silent, completely not showing interest in one of the central topics of the genre. Since Become Human does not talk about the reasons for the appearance of deviants – Androids who have departed from the program and have gained free will – they simply do not leave the player for interpretations.

Detroit shamelessly deceives even his name – “to become a man”: robots in the project Quantic Dream Already humanized. They experience fear, disgust, know how to love and hate, want to live and even show in stressful situations suicidal inclinations. They could only prove the stubborn homo sapiens that the robots are alive, reasonable and feeling.

In other words, the conflict in Detroit is built on the fact that the Androids felt like people, and people still see anthropomorphic toasters in them. This is a conflict of misunderstanding, and the player immediately explains who is right, who is to blame: androids are slaves, and therefore good; People who do not want to recognize personalities in them – damn oppressors.

This dialogue is optional: many parallels with oppressed blacks in D: BH are optional. But this does not cancel the fact that the topic is given too straight

However, it is somehow embarrassed to condemn people in this situation-they are simply used to the fact that androids are inanimate. Robots deliberately made very similar to people. Oh people like such objects need – they can take out aggression, sexual complexes, force them to do unpleasant work, while remaining within the framework of the law and morality. He knocked – he sensations seemed to be a person, but from the point of view of the law, this is something like a garbage tank to kick. All in winning!

Sadism in relation to android is a socially acceptable satisfaction of its base desires. Super Spoiler! Todd just for that and got Alice and Kara to recoup on them. And then Nate: whipping dolls suddenly come to life and actively resist! Their feelings, you see, came from somewhere!

People need time to get used to the changes, but it just lacks it. This conflict can only be resolved by the revolution. And it begins.

The price of violence

Detroit: Become Human – classic history of the uprising. Even the main characters are the spilled archetypes of participants in any civil war: rebel Marcus, Loyalist Connor, Kar refugee.

Detroit style is a source of real pleasure

In the center of the plot is Marcus: He decides what the devastes protest will be. Both options, violent and peaceful, are logically justified. The story of the leader of the uprising begins with difficult trials, and they may well embitterly become an ordinary terrorist, taking revenge on the human race. Then the finale of his Wendetta (if you want) will be an explosion of a “dirty” bomb in the center of Detroit: it will expel all the “people” from the city, but after that people will see only enemies in Androids.

This is the most terrible of the possible endings: violence between people and deviants will not stop. Having drowned Detroit in the blood, the Androids will not be able to show their human nature, and even having won formal, military, victory, they only consolidate the initial conflict of misunderstanding with it.

One of the strongest endings for Kerus is to escape from the concentration camp. If we compare this episode with the border crossing, too many parallels appear: Cage clearly hints that poor handling refugees are not much different from fascism

Violence will immediately hit the boomerang not only on the revolutionaries of Marcus, but also on refugees like Cara. Excessive bloodshed on the streets of Detroit cuts her and Alice from happy endings: now it will not be possible to gain freedom, simply piercing someone-you will have to pay with the lives of loved ones.

By the acts of Marcus will judge all the deviants, and this is remarkably revealed in the scene at customs, if you try to slip through without sacrificing anyone. The passportist will look at the heroes, then at the screen, where the riots are broadcast in Detroit, and raise the alarm. In his gaze – the verdict of mankind to all androids who began terror.

Well, Connor … Let the gameplain episodes with him are the most interesting, it makes no sense to reason for a long time about the Android-Saw: the loyalist is valuable only as an increase in the revolutionary. He will either defeat him, or lose, or joins – Connor simply reacts to events. On the fate of refugees in the person of Cara or by resolving a key conflict – to prove to people the humanity of androids – this will not affect. He may not even become a deviant, but to the end of the plot to remain faithful to his creators.

The price of freedom

Some of the reviewers wrote that the Cara line is the most useless. I disagree with this – it is the main thing in this story. Cara is the sake of whom the struggle is going on, all this is for her. There are hundreds of revolutionaries, and tens of thousands of refugees. The most emotional scenes-“breakfast” with an android psychopath, riding a carousel in an abandoned amusement park, a concentration camp of robots, a conversation with a police officer in a rose house, and she got it. Other critics still remembered the scene of the awakening of the Marcus at the landfill, but she personally did not hook me, I cannot attribute it to the “strong”. It was set correctly – especially in terms of sound design – but I directly saw where the ideas are deprived from. For me, this is a secondaryness on the verge of tastelessness.

It seems like a strong scene, but in fact – just a bunch of other people's ideas and images

And although Marcus, after the horrors seen in a landfill, has long talks about his sense of responsibility for the people, he does not understand until the end of the real scale of trouble. The rebel thinks that it is enough for him to win, and even then people will accept Androids as equals. But more important is not victory, but then, __ how exactly he will achieve it. The real enemy of the Marcus is a misunderstanding, and not his carriers-people at all. The main battle unfolds in the player’s head when he decides on which path to direct the revolution, whose blood to shed on the streets: red – people, or blue – Androids.

Marcus visually flirts with the topic of falling. This is not by chance – he became a man, but it can "fall" if he chooses the path of terror

Cage claims (and I agree with him!) that the only way to overcome the abyss of misunderstanding between people and deviants is to show the suffering of the latter. The whole world, live. Bait yourself, humbly standing under fire. Deviations from this path lead to an increase in the number of victims, distances between the parties to the conflict, hatred.

Each time, standing under bullets or drawing a resistance sign on a bench (instead of breaking it), I literally felt how public opinion was changing (thanks to the indicator, yeah). When the military was clamped by the last bunch of deviants against the demonstration against the genocide, I had no doubt what needs to be done – if the kiss of two robots in the face of death would not prove to the townsfolk that androids are also people, they will not take them in anything. And it worked.

Marcus artist so -so. Karl, however, is also very overestimated: even his mansion is the personification of bad taste. Well, okay, the main thing is that he is good

Only in such a way, over and over time, you can convey to the inhabitants of America in the https://sister-site.org/amazon-slots/ same week that there are no more cars. To go outside and allow yourself to kill yourself is the only road to freedom and equality for thousands of deviants. There is no other way.

Message to the world

Killing people, not to prove that you are one of them. Not recognizing their life equivalent to your, not to achieve a mirror effect. Marcus can go through the entire plot of the Gandhi path – with his hands raised, ready for the fact that every step can be the last. The path of the pacifist turned out to be the most piercing role experience that I have experienced lately. Not bad for interactive cinema, right?

Here they are, quite real emotions, a feeling of a sky -high rate of bets! Perhaps now the crazy bullet will break off the story of my hero … But somewhere there, on the other edge of Detroit, people will not hate Kar and Alice-they will be sorry, they will be helped. The abyss of misunderstanding can be overcome by falling asleep with bodies, but not by corpses of opponents-people, but by their own Android.

Drugs are the cause of almost all evils in the Become Human: they made moral freaks from Todd and Leo, because of them could not be saved by his son Hank

I could, together with Marcus, hate people and lead him on the war path, but did not want. I bet on Equality of the life of their and strangers , Not knowing if she would play, – just thought that it was so right. It turned out that Cage with me in this matter is completely in solidarity.

There is an important nuance: according to Cage's philosophy, the struggle itself is a right business. Over and over, showing the consequences of decisions made, he reports that passivity is always the worst of the election. It is easiest to see this with the example of Cara: if you do nothing when Alice is in danger, but simply standing, executing an order, in the end, Todd will destroy both.

For several passages, I still managed to catch the glitch, drowning the camera under the car during a trip. Of course, until the end of the scene it was impossible to get it from there

It is more difficult with Marcus: if he tolerates the beatings of the Yar-narcomaniac, Karl will die-he will not stand his heart. If you decide to repulse Leo, he will suffer, but will not die. Then you can see his repentant message sent to his father when discharge from the hospital – obviously, the young man decided to improve. The old man, of course, will depart into another world in any situation, but our rebellion will give him several days of life and actually return his son.

It seems like a completely unnecessary episode – but how well it works: a children's smile fills the life of Androids with meaning

Detroit is a statement. A message that is easy to read, comparing the consequences of its elections. Cage turns to everyone who is protesting with the desire to break a stranger; Paris has a rich history of mass riots, so this topic is really relevant for the French studio. And for the rest of the world too, what is it there.

“Hatred does not solve problems, does not overcome disagreements. A real change in the future requires sacrifice yourself-because otherwise, free or involuntarily, you sacrifice someone else. And there will be much more suffering than you can imagine. ". It seems to me that this is a too deep thought to consider the Become Human just a pretentious dummy.
